The rites of Greater Pilgrimage
The first day of Hajj; 8th ZilHajj:
All pilgrims depart from Mak`kah, after the Morning Prayer for Mina. In Mina, the pilgrims have to offer the Noon prayer (Zuhur) to Night prayer (Esha) and stay there overnight.
The second day of Hajj; 9th ZilHajj:
All pilgrims after offering the Morning Prayer depart for Arafat. They have to offer Mid-Day and afternoon prayers in Arafat, combined or separately. Waqoof (standing) in the plain of Arafat is the most important rite of Hajj after the afternoon prayer. Pilgrims depart from Arafat after the sunset is announced by loud bang. The combined evening and night prayers are offered in Muzdalfa. Seventy pebbles are also collected in Muzdalfa for lapidation of the Satans in Mina. Stay in Muzdalfa for the whole night.
The third day of Hajj; 10th ZilHajj:
Morning prayer in Muzdalfa standing (Waqoof) before dawn and saying worshiping prayer. Departure for Mina a little before dawn. Arrival at Mina. Then hurling seven pebbles at Great Pillar (symbolizing Satan). Immolation of a head of livestock (goat or ram). Shaving of head by men and symbolic cutting of hairs by ladies. Coming out of Ehram and putting on usual cloths. Going to Mak`kah to perform Tawaf-e-Ifada (Ziarat) with Saeey (if not done earlier). Return back to Mina for overnight stay.
Fourth day of Hajj; 11th ZilHijj:
Lapidation (Hurling pebbles) on three pillars after mid-day. The lapidarian in to begin from small to middle and then to greater Satan. Stay at Mina for the night.
Fifth day of Hajj; 12th ZilHijj:
Lapidation of three Satan after mid-day in the same order as on fourth day i.e. from small to middle and to greater Satan. This lapidation is to be accomplished before sunset. If Tawaf-e-Ifada (Ziarat) has not been performed as yet, it has to be done positively before sunset. End of stay at Mina. End of pilgrimage.
